The Dubravase monastery is located on the southern slopes of the Zlatibor mountain, 30 kilometers from the tourist center, five kilometers upstream from the Uvac monastery complex. It is located on one of the meanders of the Uvac river, on a hill that is surrounded on three sides by the river canyon and from which there is a wonderful view of the untouched nature and the course of the river itself.
The history of the monastery is less known because there is no reliable written information about the time of the monastery's creation, nor about who built it. It can only be said with certainty that it was built in the Middle Ages. Hieromonk Danilo, who, while serving in the Uvac Monastery, spent more than two years wandering the slopes of Zlatibor in search of the ruins of the shrine, which appeared to him several years before arriving in Uvac during prayers.
In the spring of 2001, he found the first traces of the sanctuary and for three whole years he stayed in a nearby shepherd's hut or walked from Uvac, where he was still serving, in order to work on the discovery of the monastery. The locals and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments from Kraljevo came to his aid. Excavation of the ruins began, and on that occasion, the two-meter-high ruins of the monastery church were found, and the remains of the monastery's quarters, about fifty meters away. The remains found were made of sige, a material used for the construction of medieval monasteries, so it can be said with certainty that this was also a medieval shrine. During the excavation of the ruins, at the place where the altar used to be in Orthodox celebrations, at a depth of 80 cm, local resident Mitar Đurović found a hiding place with more than 260 well-preserved Venetian gold coins from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The discovery of these gold coins proves that the monastery was located in the border zone where trade with the Republic of Venice was developed. It is assumed that this was the treasury of the Pribojska Banja Monastery, which in that period was the center of the Dabrobosna Metropolitanate, and that this monastery was the metoh of that monastery which suffered the same tragic fate as the Banj Monastery, i.e. great destruction in the 17th and 18th centuries.
A committee for the Restoration of the Monastery is established. Locals donate the land where the shrine was found, the road to the monastery was broken and built. From the money obtained for the gold coins, the restoration of the original old place of worship dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon (a small monastery church) began, and later the construction of a larger church dedicated to Saint Vasilij Ostroška. Later, monastery lodgings were built to accommodate the sisters (today this monastery is a women's monastery), a guest house, economic facilities and other buildings necessary for life in the monastery.
