Gallery - the endowment of Božidar Kovačević on Borova glava
Academic painter Božidar Kovačević was born on Borova Glava, where he built a gallery made up of several old Zlatibor log cabins, with a permanent exhibition of paintings by this famous artist. This gallery is 12 kilometers from the tourist center and is one of the oldest galleries on Zlatibor. Hundreds of drawings, watercolors, pastels, and oils present characteristic Zlatibor landscapes and portraits of Zlatibor workers.
Kovačević Gallery is an authentic art space in Zlatibor, located on the Borova Glava hill. Comprised of carefully restored log cabins from the first half of the 20th century, the gallery is the result of the vision of painter Božidar Kovačević, who integrated traditional Zlatibor architecture into a functional and aesthetically coherent artistic environment. Wooden and stone walls, open gallery spaces and studios form a unique environment in which art is not only displayed, but also created, experienced and contemplated.
Founded in the early eighties of the 20th century, the Kovačević Gallery has been dedicated to nurturing artistic expression and cultural memory for more than four decades. After being heavily damaged in a fire in 1991, it was rebuilt as a symbol of creative perseverance and artistic autonomy.
Today, the gallery is managed by Aleksandra Kovačević and Slavenka Kovačević Tomić, academic painters and heirs of the founders, who have been organizing the contemporary art festival ZALET since 2016. The festival connects the local art scene with regional and international currents, actively involving the community through exhibitions, performances and educational workshops in the field of visual and performing arts.
ZALET is an important segment of the Gallery's activities, with the aspiration to preserve the tradition of art colonies to which Božidar Kovačević was dedicated, and to continue his practice of connecting artists from different cultural backgrounds.
A significant number of works of art by different authors, created during decades of activity and cooperation, are preserved in the gallery's permanent exhibition and collection, which makes the Kovačević Gallery a relevant point on the cultural map of Serbia and beyond.
